Breyer Traditional Winx
Pequannock, NJ (April 8, 2020) Some horses make history, while others run away with it! Breyer® is proud to honor the amazing achievements of Australian Thoroughbred racing superstar Winx by making her their newest Thoroughbred portrait model.
Over the course of five years Winx rewrote racing history. The 2011 Thoroughbred had an incredible 37 career wins, tying with the legendary Phar Lap, in addition to becoming the world record holder for both the highest earnings and most Group-One wins.
Bred by Fairway Thoroughbreds, Winx was sold at the Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $230,000 to Peter and Patty Tighe’s Magic Bloodstock Racing in partnership with Debbie and Paul Kepitis, and Richard Treweeke. While these owners all saw something special in Winx, they couldn’t have predicted the unparalleled success of this bold mare.
Trained by Australia’s leading Group-One TrainerChris Waller, Winx’s streak of consecutive wins began on May 16, 2015. Jockey Hugh Bowman piloted her in every race since 2015’s Epsom Handicap, and to 32 of her wins. Primarily raced in New South Wales where horses run clockwise, Winx also won four Cox Plates, which are run counterclockwise – highlighting her versatility.
In April 2019, Winx entered the starting gates at the Queen Elizabeth Stakes for her last race before retiring. True to form, Winx pulled off her 33rd consecutive win – a length and a half ahead of the second-place finisher! She retired a true champion, and was voted horse of the year for the 4th time in 2019. Her career earned her a place in Australia’s Racing Hall of Fame, a world record of 25 Group-One wins, and a second world record as the highest-earning Thoroughbred with over $26.4 million AUD ($19.7 million USD) in winnings!
The next saga has already begun for this racing heroine as she has transitioned into motherhood. In December 2019, Winx was confirmed in foal to leading sire I Am Invincible. The world waits to see where this new chapter of her story will lead.
Winx’s Breyer Traditional (1:9 scale) portrait model was sculpted by equine artisans. Each is expertly hand-painted to capture the finest detail, including Winx’s distinctive “F” freeze brand. A fine collectable that’s equally at home on display or in the hands of a child for play, Winx’s model will be available at participating toy, gift, tack and agricultural stores, as well as www.BreyerHorses.com. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each Breyer Winx model will benefit Team Thoroughbred NSW, an organization that provides retraining and aftercare for retired race horses.
